diary

December 20th, 1991

I got up soon this morning. Stood near my wife's photo and prayed for sometime. I myself prepared a can of juice. My daughter-in-law gave a very little breakfast - a slice of bread and quarter cup of tea. Whereas the dog gets 3 sandwiches and a full glass of milk. She asked me not to sit and waste time and asked me to water the garden. As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide my car needs washing. As I start toward the garage, I notice that there is mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mailbox earlier. I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car. I lay my car keys down on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table, and notice that the can is full. So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first. But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first. I take my checkbook off the table, and see that there is only one check left. My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of juice that I had been drinking. I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the juice aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over. I realize the juice is getting warm, and I decide I should put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold. As I head toward the kitchen with the juice, a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye. They need to be watered. I set the juice down on the counter, and I discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning. I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers. I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly I spot the TV remote. Someone left it on the kitchen table. I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I will be looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers. I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor. So, I set the remote back down on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill. Then I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do.

At the end of the day: the driveway is flooded the car isn't washed, the bills aren't paid, there is a warm can of juice sitting on the counter, there is still only one check in my check book, I can't find the remote, I can't find my glasses, and I don't remember what I did with the car keys. Then when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day long, and I'm really tired. Nobody knows that recently, I was diagnosed with A. A. A. D. D. - Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder. My daughter-in-law tells my son that am fit for nothing. My son don't bother about my health, wish my wife was near me in this old age. I want her to be my companion in these old ages, but fate had something in its store for me. I don't know how long I will live. But God, my son should be very happy. He should be bestowed with all the wealth. God, my son shouldn't be left in a old-age home by my grand children, like what my son Alok is planning. He can't tolerate this loneliness. I want my son to have all the happiness in this world. My 15 year old grand-son looks at me with tears in his eyes. I feel his love for me. But when will my son realize my love for him? Through my grandson I learnt that Alok enrolled my name in an old age home. He felt me to be a burden. What more should I write? My hands are trembling now. After penning down all these, I feel relaxed. Diary has been my best companion after my wife's demise. I can hear something now. Yes, my daughter-in-law is calling me to do some work.

Devraj, Alok's dad couldn't digest the fact that Alok thought him as a burden. He attained God's abode on December 22nd, 1991.

Drops of water fell on the yellowing papers of the diary and Alok felt it in the moistened paper. Quickly Alok removed the tissue from his pocket and prevented the water to blot the paper. He found this diary in a wooden trunk which once belonged to his dad. Alok whimpered, "Am really sorry dad. Wish I should have taken care of you properly. I could have given the best treatments for you. I Shouldn't have listened my wife that time and enrolled you in Old age home. At that time, we were pondering the reason's for your sudden death. Now I understood the reason behind it. Everything has gone out of my hands then. Even my wife, no your Daughter-in-law realized her fault in her death-bed...". A shrill voice, brought him back to reality. It demanded, "Hey dad, what you are doing? Go and help my wife or else I should get your name enrolled in an Old- Age Home. Don't make me shout dad, i have got works". Its his son. He wiped the rolling tears and kept the diary in his dad's trunk and locked it. Came out of the room and headed towards kitchen thinking, "My wife should have treated dad like this"...

"AS YOU SOW SO SHALL YOU REAP."

This may be a fiction. But its happening everywhere, Old Age homes are becoming the dwelling for many aged one's. The reason is, we forget all the good deeds our parents did to us. I wrote this after witnessing a real incident that took place in my neighborhood few days back. Take a pledge today - 'I will make my parents feel secure in their old age. I will take care of them with utmost care'. Love your parents and get the best blessings anyone can shower you with.

I love you dad! I love you mom!!

Mystic Powers !?

A week ago, I read a factual article regarding the mysterious happenings, which happens in many lives. But these happenings doesn't have any concrete evidences to prove them. It provoked me to write this article. Stories of scores of breakthroughs made in science and technology cannot take away from the fact that there exists some phenomenon that we still cannot explain. Here are few mysteries which science cannot explain till date.

GHOSTS

Spirits of the dead have long made an appearance in our folklore. People have reporteGhostd seeing partitions of both strangers and departed loved ones. Though proof of the existence of ghosts remains elusive, eyewitnesses report seeing and even communicating with ghosts. In Minnesota, Taunton Cemetery a 12 year old girl was seen sitting in the rocking chair, rocking it back and forth next to her grave. In another incident, An old man who loved reading books was seen in a photo (After his death), taken by his family members in his library. Weird na?

UFOs

ufo

There is no doubt that UFOs (Unidentified Flying Objects) exist — people see things in the skies that they cannot identify, ranging from aircraft to meteors. Whether or not any of those objects are alien spacecraft is a different matter. Investigation has found known causes for most sightings, but some UFO incidents will remain unexplained. From where they are coming and where do they go?

INTUITION

Call it gut feelings, or a ‘sixth sense’, we have all experienced and we term it as intuition. Psychologists note that people subconsciously pick up information, leading us to sense or know information without knowing exactly how or why we know it. But cases of intuition are difficult to prove or study. Many say, it is the recorded information present in the sub-conscious mind, which results in the Intuition. But doctors say, it is not so. Intuition is beyond the reach of sub-conscious mind.

BIGFOOT/ LOCH NESS

For decades, large, hairy, manlike beasts called Bigfoot have been reported by many eyewitnesses across America and Tibet. In the absence of evidence like teeth or bones, support comes down to sightings and ambiguous photos. Hence solid proofs regarding their existence. Since it is logically impossible to prove a universal negative, science will never be able to prove that creatures like the Loch Ness monster do exist in this world.

DEJA VU

Déjà vu is a French phrase meaning ‘already seen’, referring to the distinct, puzzling, and mysterious feeling of having experienced a specific set of circumstances before. Cause and nature of the phenomenon itself remains a mystery. It has been subject to serious psychological and neuro-physiological research. Scientifically speaking, it is an act of "precognition" or "prophecy". Memory trace may lead to the sensation of matching the real life characters with the persons resembling their characteristics and this may be called as Déjà vu. Again, there are no solid proof for these.

NEAR-DEATH EXPERIENCES

People who were once near death have sometimes reported various orphic experiences (such as going into a dark room and emerging in a well-lit place) While such experiences are profound, no one has returned with proof or verifiable information from ‘beyond the grave’. Skeptics suggest that the experiences are explainable as hallucinations of a traumatized brain, yet there is no way to know with certainty what causes near-death experiences.

PSYCHIC POWERS & ESP

Psychic powers and extra-sensory perception (ESP) rank among the top unexplained phenomena if for no other reason than that belief in them is so widespread. Many people believe that intuition is a form of psychic power. Researchers have tested people who claim esp_pic2to have psychic powers, though the results under controlled scientific conditions have so far been negative or ambiguous. Some have argued that psychic powers cannot be tested, or for some reason diminish in the presence of skeptics or scientists. If this is true, science will never be able to prove or disprove the existence of psychic powers. ESP involves reception of information's not from recognized senses. A scientific methodology that shows statistically significant grounds for ESP has not been authenticated.

THE BODY-MIND CONNECTION

BodyMindConnection Medical science is only beginning to understand the ways in which the mind influences the body. Emotions of people can at times cause a relief in medical symptoms or suffering by believing the cures to be effective, whether they actually are or not. Using processes only poorly understood, the body’s ability to heal itself is far more amazing than anything modern medicine could create. Without medicines, diseases get cured just because of our mind-set. Isn't this something? No solid evidences are available for this one too!

All these are mysteries or questions which remain unanswerable for a long time. What does this mean? Who is the reason behind all these? Can we prejudice that some extraordinary power is acting along with the laws of nature? Again, all these are left behind as the points to ponder.

P.S : I wrote this article by referring some web-sites for writing this without factual errors. So if you feel that this contain views which oppose your thought's, am sorry. Its my perspective. Any resemblance of sentences published in any other web-sites matching with my writing, is purely coincidental.

Technologically Challenged

Anyone of you believe you are technologically challenged? Take to your heart guys, after reading this article, you will exclaim, "Ain' t seen anything yet". This is an excerpt From Wall Street Journal.

Compaq is considering changing the command "Press Any Key" to "Press Return Key" because of the flood of calls asking where the "Any" key is.

AST technical support had a caller complaining that her mouse was hard to control with the dust cover on. The cover turned out to be the plastic bag the mouse was packaged in.

Another Dell customer called to say he couldn't get his computer to fax anything. After 40 minutes of troubleshooting, the technician discovered the man was trying to fax a piece of paper by holding it in front of the monitor screen and hitting the "Send" key.

Yet another, Dell customer called to complain that his keyboard no longer worked. He had cleaned it by filling up his tub with soap and water and soaking the keyboard for a day, then removing all the keys and washing them individually.

A Dell technician received a call from a customer who was enraged because his computer had told him he was "bad and invalid." The tech explained that the computer's "bad command" and "invalid" responses ..... shouldn't be taken personally.

A confused caller to IBM was having trouble printing documents He told the technician that the computer had said it "couldn't find
printer." The user had also tried turning the computer screen to face
the printer -- but that his computer still couldn't "see" the printer.

An exasperated caller to Dell Computer Tech Support couldn't get
her new Dell Computer to turn on. After ensuring the computer was
plugged in, the technician asked her what happened when she pushed the power button. Her response, "I pushed and pushed on this foot pedal and nothing happens." The "foot pedal" turned out to be the computer's mouse.

Another customer called Compaq tech support to say her brand new computer wouldn't work. She said she unpacked the unit, plugged it in and sat there for 20 minutes waiting for something to happen. When asked what happened when she pressed the power switch, she asked, "What power switch?"

Another IBM customer had trouble installing software and rang for support. "I put in the first disk, and that was OK. It said to put in the second disk, and had some problems with the disk. When it said to put in the third disk, I couldn't even fit it in." The user hadn't realized that "Insert Disk 2" implied to- remove Disk 1 first.

A story from a Novell NetWire SysOp:

"Hello, is this Tech Support?"

"Yes, it is. How may I help you?"

"The cup holder on my PC is broken, and I am within my warranty period. How do I go about getting that fixed?"

"I'm sorry, but did you say a cup holder?"

"Yes, it's attached to the front of my computer."

"Please excuse me. If I seem a bit stumped, it's because I am Did you receive this as part of a promotional at a trade show? How did you get this cup holder? Does it have any trademark on it?"

"It came with my computer. I don't know anything about a
promotional. It just has '4X' on it."

At this point, the Tech Rep had to mute the caller because he couldn't
stand it. He was laughing too hard. The caller had been using the load
drawer of the CD-ROM drive as a cup holder and snapped it off the drive.

A woman called the Canon help desk with a problem with her printer.
The tech asked her if she was "running it under windows."
The woman responded, "No, my desk is next to the door. But that is a
good point. The man sitting in the cubicle next to me is under a window
and his printer is working fine."

Howzzat??! Enjoyed eh?

P.S : This is a mail i received few days ago. Real coincidence of the happenings are doubted.

Laughter is a great thing. We've all heard the saying, "Laughter is the best medicine." There is strong evidence that laughter can actually improve health and help fight disease. Human beings love to laugh, and a report tells that the average adult laughs 17 times a day. Humans love to laugh so much and there are actually industries built around laughter. Jokes, sitcoms and comedians are all designed to get us laughing. For us it seems so natural, but the funny thing is that humans are the only species that laughs, you can't find any this any other living creatures. Laughter is actually a complex response that involves many of the same skills used in solving problems.

What's your take on this?

Warning : I don't know if this post meant anything. I wrote whatever I felt after reading that magazine. I am confused with the beginning and ending of this post. If you don't find things in order, try to order them and read! If you think this as a boring post, wait till the next post!

A guy divorced a girl because she asked him to dry the clothes and cut the vegetables. Can you believe this? This is what I read in a regional magazine. Their's was a love marriage and this guy got irritated when his wife gave him loads of work (?). Even her in-laws abused for asking her husband to do works. This guy kept his mouth shut and nodded for all accusations. Eventually, they applied for Divorce with mutual consent. These day's the number of divorce cases increased to such an extent that our country resemble western countries.

In accordance with worldwide divorce, Indian divorce rate is also increasing manifold, as studied by some social groups it is because of incompatibility arising from intolerance, impatience, greed, lust and desire to dominate. Building a relationship needs utmost effort, but breaking needs a petty reason. Divorce seems to be an appealing way out from incompatible and unhappy marriage. The modern day divorce became fashion due to available alternate choices. But divorce is nothing but a negative change in life as stated by much analysis, where divorced people have shattered family system, low life expectancy, low standards of living, social isolation and the most important is “emotional distress”. Considering these reasons, divorce is painful, and post-divorce life is challenging. Probably many would think that if the first marriage fails, one can always go for another marriage, unfortunately, divorce rate from the second marriages is 1.5 fold higher than the first one. In addition to this, separated or divorced couples are hardly believed for their honesty and sincerity. Whether it is man or a woman, second marriages in India are not so respected, and demands fortune.

Having said that the divorce in India is not a gregarious act, what prompts people for divorce is intriguing. Sociologists may say it is hyper-urban style and modernization that is instigating couples for divorce. The truth behind this is mainly anticipated independence- as individuals are seeking for individuality. In majority of the cases the new-independence is due to lack of adjustment in the core-family system

"That women are receiving higher education and are working is a great step forward", proclaim the reformists.

A girl was brought up the same manner as a boy. She is well educated as him. They never entered the kitchen and ask mom for even a glass of water. They too have dreams regarding their career. She was brought up with loads of affection and care by their parents. One day she is getting married and her life turn's upside down. She leaves her entire family and enters a new world expecting tantrums. She leaves all other relationships only for a single person - Her Husband. He should support her and relieve her from all the accusations made by his family members about her. But it happens the opposite way. The same girl who have never visited a kitchen till the day before is expected to cook like an expert cook the very first day. She is same as the guy. All these years she too have studied and also works in a company for a fat salary.

All guy's need a well-educated working women. The husband and wife are called better-half's, which means sharing of joy's and sorrow's in early days and its sharing of works also in these modern days. She is not asking you to cook or do all house-hold works. What's wrong in helping your wife who earns for your family? Is the girl is destined for doing everything after marriage? I am not saying this society is male dominated. But certain narrow minded people still remain in this country. Why don't they understand we too have a heart and feelings. If we don't work, we won't be having financial independence. Expecting money from husband for every petty things is something hard to digest.

I am not that kind of person who argue that a girl can live without a male support. Practically it is impossible. Though we tell that 'Women of this age are, well educated, working, courageous, brave', how many of them are ready to raise their voice against the social evil's caused to them? Only a few brave hearted souls do that. Even if some start a fight, the society (Which was keeping its mouth tightly shut till this moment), will blame, "Is this how a girl should behave?". Why can't they understand girls and guys are same and we too have the same feelings as them. Being independent in thoughts and raising voice against the troubles caused to us is wrong in the eyes of many. But who comes for our protection?

Understanding each other and helping is the key to success in marriages.

What you felt after reading this?

With Love,

Everlasting Love

DISCLAIMER : The characters and the plot used here are completely fictional. Any resemblance of characters to actual persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental. The Author holds exclusive rights to this work. Unauthorized duplication is prohibited

I was initiated by the 'Lost Love Specialist' Benny, to give a break for my 55 Fictions and write a long Fiction. So I attempted writing this story.

********************

I was sitting on the sand and watching the waves hitting the shore. "It has been 4 long years now", I thought "A lot of things have happened in my life ". The waves were bringing back my old memories. I still remember how I met a guy with the name Rohit in this place. I usually hit the beach on weekends to forget loneliness after my friends got scattered all over India after school. Since then I could not find a circle of friends as I had in School. I usually see him sitting alone on the sands and viewing the waves. There is a saying, "Birds of same feather flock together ". I had never accepted this saying until I saw him.

Days went on.. Soon my eyes started to search for him every time I came to the beach. Slowly I felt some peculiar chemical reactions within me. The following weekend I didn't to go to the beach as all my friends had planned for a reunion. Even though I was with my friends I could sense something was not at its place. Does it have to do anything with him? I questioned myself but my heart failed to answer my questions. Next weekend when I went to the beach my eyes didn't search for him instead I was just admiring the beautiful waves. Waving its hands for me and wishing a great weekend, Until I heard a voice, "Seems you didn't turn up last weekend?", I just turned and noticed that, it was Rohit saying that. Those were the first words he spoke to me. I never knew I was noticed by him all these days. Words failed to come out of my mouth. "By The Way I am Rohit ", were the next few words which brought me back to my senses. "Hi I am Shwetha. Glad to meet you!". I greeted him with a smile. "Mind If I sit here ", he asked me tentatively, action spoke before words did and even before I could say no my head nodded in opposite way and gave permission for him. He sat there beside me and we spoke. I experienced Einstein's theory of relativity on that day. Hours flew just like seconds. He said that his native is Bengaluru and came to Chennai on a transfer. He told that he was staying with his parents in a house near to the beach.

Time went on and the more we spent time together, friendship grew more between us. We exchanged numbers. Weekend meetings start to become weekdays night phone chatting. Slowly my feeling towards him started to change, I never felt so attracted to a guy before. He was changing my life which was full of loneliness to a more enjoyable and fun filled one. He was working in a MNC, so he was free in the evenings most of the time. He started calling me after his office hours and we spoke for hours and hours. It was only in the weekends that we met each other and spoke in person; otherwise it was only over the phone.

After some days I couldn't speak with Rohit because of my semester exams. During my exam times, I never used my mobile and after my exams got over I checked my mobile it had some 50 odd messages from Rohit. The moment I saw it, I knew he would be very angry on me for not turning up this weekend. I called him a few times and there was no answer from him. I just messaged him about my inability to contact him because of my semesters and was waiting for his reply. That day my eyes failed to see dreams and my heart sensed fear of losing a friend, my bed which was of roses since the day I started to speak to Rohit, became thorns to me.

The next weekend, fate had different plans for me. I made it to the beach and was sitting there for about an hour, thinking about whether he would turn up or not. After waiting for another 30 odd minutes, I decided to leave and started walking towards my scooter. I saw him in front of me, I went to him and said "Hi am Sorry Rohit, I could not turn up last weekend. Had my exams, I guess you can understand", his silence gave me a signal that he was still angry with me! He just went past me and sat on the sand. I had no other option, so I followed his foot steps and sat next to him.

"Okay Rohit, I know ...you are angry on me. I am sorry for not informing you, I guess you can understand in what situation I was in."

His answer was silence. " If he doesn't like to speak to you, then don't disturb him", my mind gave me orders.

"Ok, Rohit I think your silence mean to me that I have to leave now! I don't want to disturb you, am leaving Ro"

I got up with a heavy heart. I took my first step and he broke his silence and said, "Please don't go"

He was depressed. I understood that from his voice. I went near him and sat . I saw the waves, I saw his face and saw those cold eyes and felt he is low-spirited. I went near him and asked, "Rohit, What happened? you seem dull! Did I say something wrong?". He relaxed himself by stretching his arms, and started speaking, "No you didn't tell anything wrong, I couldn't be there without talking to you, Shwetha. You have become so close to me, that I feel you are a part of me."

The moment he finished, a question arose in my mind "Rohit loving me? Isn't it?". I saw those piercing eyes of him and couldn't arrive at a conclusion. "Are you in love with me Rohit?", I asked him directly by looking into those eyes. He looked away from me and told "I don't know Shwe, but I have never missed anyone like I have missed you in this time". Words failed to come out from both of us. We returned home questioning ourselves , "Are we in love?"

The night was long and my eyes failed to draw curtains. Suddenly I saw my mobile blaring . It was him. I controlled all my emotions and picked up the call with my trembling hands.

"Hey Hi, Tell me Rohit"

There was silence, I could hear his hard breaths.

"Hello, anyone there?"

"Sorry to disturb you Shwetha. Thought you would be sleeping!"

"That's fine, Had some work. Going to hit my sack! Any problem Rohit!?"

"No, not at all.. just thought of speaking to you!"

"Oh ok, tell me.."

"Shwetha, Can I ask you a question? "

"Go on Ro"

"What would be your decision if I say 'I am in love with you'?"

I was caught on the thoughts. "Does he really meant what he said? I know I am not that attractive but he has those killer looks"

"Shwe, You there?"

"Yeah, Yeah.. I am very well here"

"Did I ask anything wrong?"

"Nope"

I came to my senses and told him my decision. "I too love you Ro!". The next moment, I only heard sounds of joy and cry; I felt his happiness in that cry, I felt his love for me that day. The days that followed were pleasant and the most unforgettable days in my life. Everything around me looked beautiful. I was experiencing the phrase "When love is in your heart, everything around you will appear beautiful than ever". We shared happiness, sorrows, and had little fights which made the bonding between us stronger.

Suddenly one day Rohit approached me in my college and asked me to accompany him. I told my friends to give proxy for me and went out of the college. He parked his bike outside a magnificent house. I asked, "Hey Ro, what you are upto?". He placed his finger in my mouth and asked me to keep mum till entering the house. On entering the house, the biggest shock of my life was waiting for me. Rohit's mom was standing in the porch and smiling at me. I saw Rohit smiling at me and he introduced me to his mom. Both our parents accepted our love and we planned our marriage after Rohit's Onsite project. We were the happiest couple living on this planet.

The life clock's pendulum doesn't wish me to be in the happier side always. The day came when Rohit has to leave the country to go to France on a 45 day trip. We reached the airport and sensing the need of privacy our parents left us alone. He looked deeply into my eyes and said, "I Love you" and kissed me. When the announcement came he waved goodbye to all of us, but his eyes were trailing me. 45 days went just like that and he called me from France and asked me to come to airport to receive him. We were waiting in the airport, when the announcement came, "We are deeply regretting to say that, the Flight which is due to arrive from France, crashed Mid-air and all the passengers are reported dead. A navy squad is employed there for searching the dead bodies. Our deepest condolences to the kith and kin". I felt the world around me shatter, my heart became heavy. At that moment I wished the ground beneath me to devour me. There was nothing I could do, all things were over. Tears ran down my cheeks and I was shaking uncontrollably.

'Rohit left me and reached God's abode. How he left me alone?'. I walked in the sands with the memories of Rohit; I sat and started to view the waves... for the first time in my life after meeting Rohit everything around me looked gloomier. I felt the waves were calling me towards them. My legs started walking towards the waves without my intention. I heard someone calling "Shwetha, Come here!!". My eyes started to search who was the person?

"Come here, Don't play with the sand". It was some kid's (whose name is same as mine) Mom. But my mom's face flashed before me the instant I saw the kid's mother. I took a decision. I prepared myself to face the facts of my life. I called my Mom and cried for all that had happened. She consoled me. I told her about my decision. At first she never accepted to my decision. I switched off the phone and walked towards my scooter with new thoughts in my mind.

"Mom, See what I have made for you." were the words which brought me back to the present .....

"Yeah, Dear!" ..

"A sand castle for you ma!!"

"Oh that's lovely dear" I said with a smile, looking at my child.

"Come here, Rohit, Let us stand here..."

He came running towards me. I lifted him and kissed him on the forehead.

Rohit, my adopted child. I have started to live my life for him in these 3 years. I took his hand, walked with him and made the waves touch his feet. He was smiling at me.

"Come on Dear, Let's go home!! Grandma will be waiting for us".

I held his hand and we started to walk over the sands. I turned back to watch my footsteps and felt, 'My first love was Rohit, My last love will be Rohit too'. I walked towards my car holding my last love's hand.

Love may not always exist in people who get a chance to live together…
But… it always exists in people who are no longer together…
