What If...

This post has been published by me as a part of the Blog-a-Ton 7; the seventh edition of the online marathon of Bloggers; where we decide and we write. To be part of the next edition, visit and start following Blog-a-Ton.

It was the last day of their college life. Shraddha was sitting in the lawn waiting for her friends. A sudden gush of wind made her dhupatta fall from its destined location. She cautiously took it from the grass and adjusted it again. It was then she saw Krishna waiting in the corner of the lawn. She was damn sure that he was looking at her. All these years, She had noticed him as the serenest guy in the entire class. But he never spoke with Shraddha. Shraddha decided to tell him a Hi on their last day.

When he saw Shraddha coming near him, he stood up and turned the other side for adjusting his shirt and face. The light perspiration on his forehead was the indication of his tension. He heard Shraddha's voice calling him. He turned and saw her face closely within a few steps. This was the most breathtaking scene he had ever witnessed. She said, "Hi Krishna. Its the first time we are speaking though we are classmates. Strange and weird na?". He acknowledged her by just nodding his head. The moment she was about to continue, Krishna continued, "Wait Shraddha, let me open up! I wanted to tell this for many days. But I didn't have the guts! But know what? I love you. I love you so much. Am loving you from the first day I saw you. I even know that you love Ajay. But he is not a good guy". Shraddha was burning with rage and she continued, "Stop it Krishna! You don't have the rights to speak about Ajay! He is my Ajay forever. Now get the hell out of here and go away! Wait, don't try to woo me!"

After 4 years, Krishna saw Shraddha on the 3rd floor of the mall in the same white salwar he saw on the last day. He entered the lift and told "3rd floor". When the lift's door opened, he saw Shraddha waiting for the same. He went near her and called out her name. She turned around and almost tripped on hearing her name uttered by some guy. Before Krishna could speak up Shraddha's sight was blocked by her own tears. They both went to a coffee shop on the same floor. It was Krishna who spoke first. "So Shraddha! How is life? By the way, where is Ajay?". She looked at him questioningly and said, "I don't know anything about that bloody @#$%^&! You were right that day! I shouldn't have listened to him.. But you know? I loved him so much and it was the love that shrouded me and prevented me from hearing out to you, even to the love you expressed on the last day."

She narrated the entire incident that happened after the last day. "We both loved each other so much! Like crazy people do, we went out for long drives, Continuous chatting and movies.. It was till Ajay's dad introduced him to Maya, the only daughter of an Industrialist. From that day, the time he spent with me is less than what he spent with Maya. Many of my friends told about these things. But I believed him completely till the day I saw him with Maya. That too...that too when they both were k....". Shraddha wiped her tears with the tissue Krishna offered. By then, she regained her composure and continued, "I went near Ajay and slapped him right there before Maya's eyes and came back! Later, that evening Ajay came to my house. At first I thought he came to pacify me. But he came there to invite me for his engagement with Maya. He also told the love he had on me was a time pass."

what if

Krishna consoled her and asked about her life. She replied about the job she is doing. When he asked about her marriage or any proposals, Shraddha didn't answer. But She didn't fail to notice the spark in his eyes! She herself gave an explanation to the spark, 'May be the love he has on me or the inquisitiveness to know about the other guy?'. She plainly said, "There is no space for any other guy in my life again!". Krishna understood her stress and assured her that he will be his best friend forever! Shraddha thought, "What if I had met Krishna before Ajay" and wiped her tears. They left the coffee shop, each having different thoughts and so many What If's clouding their mind.

He-She

Something is not in the way it should have been. I am taking a break in between my posts and more irregular in my friends blogs. Wish am regular from now on. Recession has finally hit the blogging world. Everywhere, I mean in many blogs authors are complaining about the lack of readers and their enthusiastic comments. Am no exception. The crux of this story is a real thing which we witness one day or the other. But this is a fiction. You will understand once you start reading it.

He opened his eyes when the sunrays caressed his face from the slightly opened curtains. The thought of yesterday's night sent a tingling sensation throughout his body. He thought, 'Really marriage makes a man complete'. He smiled to himself and saw the sunrays escaping from the red and yellow striped curtains. He turned and hugged her sideways. To his surprise his wife was wide awake. She lifted her face from the pillow and gave a brushed her lips softly in his cheek.

She got up and bundled her freely falling hairs. "At what time should we vacate this suite?". He changed his position in bed and said, "We have taken it for the wedding night only. So we can be here till 9Am I guess. That's what the manager told me". She nodded and let a faint smile. She went to wash her face. The smile which escaped her lips bothered him so much. 'What happened to her? I thought she was happy last night. But now..', his thoughts broke half way when he heard the bathroom door open.

She ordered coffee and sat in the couch after switching on the TV. She was completely lost in thoughts. He got up, came near her and sat on the same couch. He hugged her in the same sitting posture and asked, "May I know what's occupying your mind honey? After all its the first day after our reunion". She released herself from his grip, stood up and reached the balcony. He followed her and when he was about to start the conversation, the room service brought the coffee they ordered. He signaled the room service and thrust a 100 rupee note and asked him to leave.

She came inside the room and poured 2 cups of hot, steaming coffee. "You generally have black coffee or you want cream?", she asked. He wanted to impress her and make her feel comfortable from the very first day. So he uttered, "Whatever you wish...". She cut him short by saying, "I asked you want cream or not". He was shocked by her instant reply and said, "You hav....have yours. I will mix mine". Again she smiled at him and mixed cream in both cups and gave one to him. He wiped the perspiration that has formed in his head and took a sip.

She made weird patterns in the cup and was staring at the TV news. He asked, "Please let me know what you are thinking. I will try to resolve it". She shook her head by muttering, "Nothing darling" and took a sip from the cup. That Nothing again made him feel uncomfortable and tried guessing her thoughts. But he never knew the fact - Men are capable of even understanding the most difficult theories of nuclear theory than knowing/predicting/understanding what's running in the girl's mind.

She took her cup and moved to balcony and saw him lost in thoughts. She said, "What's my cost darling?". He was flabbergasted by this monologue and asked, "Whatttt?". She replied calmly, "I want to know the amount my parents have given you, or should I phrase it as hmmm... Wait......yeah, the amount you guys asked from them for having me". He licked his dried lips and kept the coffee unfinished in the table. She was expecting a reply but silence was the answer she got in the end. She came inside, kept the cup on the table and continued, "I am working as a system architect like you and earn as much as you do, in fact better than you do. But still you want dowry. Cant this wedding night be more satisfying if it took place in our 2 bedroom flat? Half a lakh for the royal suite we took in this star hotel for enjoying the wedding night. But that would have been more contended than this. Why do people still expect that the bride's family should spend their life's earning for the marriage along with dowry? I never wanted to tell you this. But I can't tolerate if my dad cries. From the royal suite to the reception, everything my dad spent. He is almost a pauper now."

She broke down after letting her heart speak out. He let out a deep breath and went near her. The moment he hugged her from behind, she turned and buried her face in his chest and started weeping continuously. He kissed her forehead, took her face in his hands and told, "Hey honey, stop sobbing. I understand you very well". She told thanks amidst her sobs. She took her bathrobe and went for taking bath. He understood her well.

He dialed his father in law's (FIL) number. At the other end, his FIL promptly attended his call in 2 rings. After exchanging pleasantries, FIL asked "How is the suite? You both are comfortable I guess. If you have any inconvenience tell me. I will speak with the hotel people for giving you the convenience you asked for". He shot back immediately, "The suite is absolutely fine and we love it uncle. Actually I called you to ask about the Honda Civic car you have promised to give me during the marriage". The old man felt a lump in his throat. He replied, "I have booked the car. But am expecting payments from two places. Will pay the full amount within a week and I will make sure that you get the car after you come from honeymoon".

He told, "Yeah mom told last night about this. I called you to tell something else uncle. I don't need the car...". The old man's heart skipped a beat and he was excited. While he was searching words to thank his son-in-law, he continued, "Instead deposit the amount plus some 5L in my account. If I get the car, your daughter will think that as a dowry. But this way, she couldn't find unless you tell her. I know you won't tell her. And don't forget to deposit the amount within a week". Again the old man's heart skipped a beat and he struggled to find words. Tears flowed freely and at the other end his SIL let out a sigh of relief. He checked the bathroom door and heard the closing of shower. He thought, 'She won't know this - Forever'. He understood her very well.

P.S : These kind of things are happening still. When the society going to change?

Silence

Silence. Can communication happen in silence? Have you ever experienced that kind of conversation?

It is quite beautiful really. When you are so close to someone that words seem to emaciate. When you know what the other mind is thinking, how the other heart is beating, how the other soul is suspiring. The silence attenuates the intimacy between the both. This may seem complex at the first thought, but when you experience it, it seems eternal.

And it is even more beautiful when this happens with a stranger. Some one you do not know anything about. Some one, who could for all you know, someone of the kind you would hate. But then in some moment when there is nothing else, only you, that stranger and the silence. There can be a conversation. It is a Magic, isn’t it?

And they shared a similar kind of magic yet they were Strangers. But yet in so many ways they were soul-mates. Silent conversations was the thing they had in common. For her and him to become a ‘them’, they needed those daily few minutes they shared. In silence.

Her company had a splendiferous campus and many thousands moving about in it. It was quite far away from her house. After the hurried mornings, the train journey was quite a relief. It was therapeutic. Almost as much as her favorite therapy, Singing. She boarded the train at 7.20Am every week day. She went straight to the back seat and sat by the window to enjoy her one hour and some minutes of therapy.

And he was always there. Sitting in the window seat at the other corner. Looking out into the world or rather lost in his world. It was his time of peace too. She knew because their thoughts were same or atleast she felt so.

Almost never did they share a word or a smile. But they always knew the other was there. The sense of connection between them was always there, hanging around somewhere in the air. Above the hideous wooden seats, the music, hustling of wind and above all the tadak-tadak of the train.

It was strange nobody seemed to prefer the back seats. Many preferred the first 4 seats or was standing at the entrance. Neither of them had office-friends in that train route. Throughout the journey, daily, they sat there. With each other. Sharing thoughts in a way even they didn’t understand. Only once there was an act of acknowledgment that realized this phenomenon.

He had been missing for a couple of days. Her morning journey in those days didn’t seem normal. Something was missing and her mind searched him in Silence. But stuck in midst of nothing. Like when you are typing fast in your key-board, words flowing out like ink from a pen and suddenly you find some key stuck, not moving.

It was like that. She was there in train. Her thoughts were there. That calmness/stillness was there. But then in between, there was a block. The thoughts bounced back off an empty wall. He was not there to catch them and throw them back, carefully to her.

And then on the third day when she climbed into the train to catch sight of that familiar face, those eyes again, she smiled. To herself. To him. There was a smile and that first acknowledgment of ‘them’. He smiled too.

*********************

She had been trying hard for the transfer. And she finally got it, she was happy. All packed and with all the happiness in the world, she left to home.

Those silent conversations disappeared into silence. Forever.

eS eM eSSSS

Just another Fiction from me! I think am boring you all with my routine stuffs rather than showing difference in my writings. But this post is so close to my heart. I hope you all will start dreaming when u finish this story. This post was selected by blogadda as one of their Tangy Tuesday Pick

It was 7pm then… I closed my maths book and was thinking about watching CN (Cartoon Network obviously!). But my dad was sitting as a guard near the TV, preventing me from watching Tom & Jerry

eS eM eSSSSsms

It was my mobile’s tone… The cutest of all the message alerts I have ever had. Wow!!! A text for me….I hastily picked up the mobile from the table…

Message:
hey Jaanu… Don 4get 2 bring d cake v bot tis evg!! Tis time v gonna cut it in bus itself J C u tomo in bus den!!

I replied --
“wow in bus itself!!! Cool…. U bet… b4n…”
--“delivered to Nike”

It was from my best friend Nikita. You know how it feels to celebrate the birthdays of our dear ones!? Oh man… you cannot put that down in words, that too when you are in your teens and that too in college days. Spending a penny for a good cause (??)!!! With nothing much in your pockets... Those were wonderful excitements and thrills. Just imagine them and you will get into that mood, Arey party mood yaar.

My dad would give me 200 rupees per month. Slowly I pestered him for a hike in my pocket money, as I kept moving from first year to final year of my college. But I would plan well and spend the money so that I don’t end up bankrupt & sit without celebrations at such occasion

And the next day morning, with the backpack, I was standing in the bus stop awaiting my college bus with all the excitement to celebrate the birthday of one of my buddies appu (actually her name is Aparna and we call her appu), obviously with the birthday cake in my other hand packed well. Here comes the yellow ride!!! That’s how we call our college bus! Though its usual that we mock our college buses a lot calling all the names, we really enjoy the ride a lot daily… We play, sleep, eat, and even write the assignments. Believe me, half of my assignments were written in my college bus only.

I got into the bus and it started moving again. Nikita was eagerly waiting to see me bring the cake inside…
“hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii”. I waved and threw my bag in a seat.

We soon formed a small circle… Aparna was standing in the center, and Nikita was holding the cake in her hands, with other bus friends surrounding us. I lit the candle and we began the party. We soon cut the cake in the bus itself, smashed the cake pieces and threw creams on each other’s faces. We all screamed "happiee birthday dear appu" in a joyous mood, sprayed the foam around and brought the environment a glow and a glee. Then we sat down laughing merrily and I started cutting the remaining safe-guarded half of the cake and distributed it to others in the bus. I took one piece of the cake and moved towards the driver. He was a very good friend to all of us. And a cheerful person too. He never minds all the shouting and fun we have on the bus daily. And that is one reason we always share such happy moments with him too!!

Oh oh!!! Here comes the trouble…

(As usual) The Maths lecturer woke from her sleep and shouted "wont you ever change at all??? yesterday evening, I warned all you guys not to behave like animals inside this bus!!! But you never seem to listen at all... aaaanimals!!! Wilddd aaaanimals!!! ". It was Ms.Amudha, our Maths lecturer in our college. You know what? All the other department lecturers always have a complex (if am right) that the students will not respect them, or bother about them once they cross their two years in the engineering colleges. It is obvious, because there will not be any Language or maths classes from third year onwards and so we wont have an opportunity, even talk with them!! And so the first year lecturers always behave in an indifferent manner (??) towards the students and show their ‘attitude’ towards us.

She continued, "So… today I am going to take this very seriously.. you, you and you (pointing to me, Nikita and Aparna). Yes… three of you! . Don’t run away after getting down from the bus, I have already hinted about you three to the Vice-Principal many times. I will take you 3 Monsters(?!) to the VP today as soon as we reach college." (You should have seen her face then!! boy oh boy... I like it when her face turns this way)

Poor appu uttered silently, “Every stupid thing happens on my birthday!!”. Myself and Nikita consoled her in a best possible way that occurred to us! Ms.Amudha continued her sleep after this short inane session and we sat quietly in the bus after that without any other option. The bus neared the college gate, gave a jerk and stopped. All of them got down from the bus, and we three stood behind, discussed what to talk to VP and then followed our Maths Ma’am. She walked very happily as though she had achieved something great!

Meanwhile, I took my mobile out from my kit, and hastily typed a text to Anjali, the girl who sits besides me in my class…
“Wil b late, gimme attendance...”
And waited hastily to just to see
---“delivered to Anju”

eS eM eSSSS
I pushed the keypad of my mobile to cut the alert. Ms.Amudha was starring at me then!!
It was the reply from Anjali…

Message:
“oki oki done bt hey cum soonnn :P
& hey… did u get my msg last nit… I had asked u 2 bring a LAYS’ packet as we have d seminar 2day… u kno na? I wil fal asleep if I don’t munch!!! I cant get caught once again to tat humpty-dumpty sir 2day!!! ”

I couldn’t stop giggling on seeing her reply. I just had only a few seconds of time to send this much alone as the reply to her …
yeah!”
---“delivered to Anju”…

'Huff!!! This woman, She is a lady Hitler', I thought to myself and we followed her and waited near the VP's cabin. Our VP is a pleasant man in his early fifties. After a few minutes, Ms.Amudha came out, along with the VP with huge sense of pride. Dean was in his neatly pressed suit, his usual attire. He almost knew every single student in the college. So he knew us very well as we were in the so-called “hit list” always.

“Students, I know you three are the naughtiest of all in this bus”. He turned towards English ma’m and looked at her. She nodded back happily imagining that we are going to be given severe punishments. He turned to us again and continued, “I know how it feels to celebrate the birthdays of our friends. But please do not disturb others for that". After saying this, he smiled at us, and hurriedly walked past behind us to his car. Oh Wow wow wow!! is this is what you call luck? The three of us replied in chorus "Sorry sir… ". We smiled at our ma’am sheepishly and she in turn did the same for she had expected something and something else churned out…

She walked away in dismay towards the Maths Department. We three saw each other, started with a smile, ended in a laugh. After that short giggles, we waved “good byes”. We all are from different departments of engineering and so walked to our respective classrooms…

eS eM eSSSS
Message:
“WRU ?? cum soon…”
It was Anjali..

I took my mobile out and selected silent profile; I was nearing my classroom. I peeped inside my class through the window. Thank God, it was not Maths hour for now and gleefully entered into the class telling an excuse to Data Structures ma'am for my late entry and sat in my place. I started telling Anjali all the happenings from the morning, while copying the problem from the blackboard in my note…

A sudden jerk jolted me off the seat..oh!!! What place is this…? I opened my eyes, just to find out that I am sitting in the same old bus but... no waitthe bus color is white now… what happened ?? I sat erect, rubbed my eyes found my S/W company's tag(ID) hanging from my neck.. A dream? No no... I was back in my college days. Oh those sweet memories. And then it was my mobile again

eS eM eSSSS
Wow!!! A text for me. I hastily picked up the mobile from my kit. Remembering those good old days
Message: “Status call at 8.30 am… Pl assemble at C3- Conference hall.. Pass the msg to others”

It was from one of my Project members! Oh no.. not again. The bus reached ITMC78 old memories Corridor, then to my office. I got down and as usual walked deplorably towards C3 and swiped my card. I muttered myself, “I wish I get back that Golden Era - my college life again!”

THIS POST IS DEDICATED TO ALL MY COLLEGE MATES!

P.S: Dreaming? Come back and tell me what you felt! eS eM eSSSS is the Message tone I still have in my mobile!

The Price

DISCLAIMER : The characters and the plot used here are completely fictional. Any resemblance of characters to actual persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental. The Author holds exclusive rights to this work. Unauthorized duplication is prohibited
"Psycho” was the only word James Peterson was thinking as he saw his unshaven face in the mirror. “James Peterson” the brain and brawn behind more than eighteen political murders was trying to recollect how he looked by seeing himself in the mirror. He had changed his appearance more than seventeen times and was wanted by more than forty-seven countries across the world. Even if he went to the chief of FBI and introduced himself as James Peterson the chief would give a generic reply of “How could I help you Sir” - that was the brilliance with which he planned his crimes.

As every man, he too had the ambition of becoming the richest, the most powerful and the most famous. Nobody knew that he was a serial rapist and killer “also” who committed those so called heinous crimes just to satisfy his self, that nobody equaled his brilliance in planned crime or covering up an unplanned crime. He was an orphan as he could recollect and was raised in the local city orphanage of the Los Angeles (did some body say crime- Yes Los Angeles the then crime capital of the richest nation on earth). But James was a brilliant student (as being a good student was the only way one can get out of the strict rules of the orphanage before he became 18) and he soon was out of the orphanage and was living on his own before he was 17 and was the leader of a gang of hooligans of his own age and worked for the chino family. His first killing/murder was at the age of 19 and that too of a famous senator. He couldn’t recollect any proper reason for the murder other than that he was paid 500 US$ for the job.

Now he was standing there in front of his mirror thinking about how to pass his evening for which he had many options. Just then the phone rang, that was a very bad thing for James as he never communicated with the outer world through this device. He picked up the device which had leaked the information of so many master planners to their enemies and led them to death.
“Hello, James?”
This was the worst shock he had ever had in his whole life. Somebody calls him and calls by his first name- his brain works fast and tells him that it is wrong number and is meant for somebody else by the name James.
“Sorry wrong number this is not James here”, and he kept the phone without even waiting for the reply.
Even before his fast brain could think anything about this incident the phone rang again, he picked it up and before he could say hello the other side shouts
“Son, Don’t keep the phone, I know you are James Peterson”,
“hickkkk” James skipped a heart beat "that's is not possible”, he blurted out.
“Who are you”,
“I am your father”
“My father is dead, I am orphan”
“No, I am very much alive”

“Why should I believe you?”
“I can’t tell you anything now, come to the Central park the second bench from the east gate 7:00 PM”
“I won’t come there”

“I know you will”
Beep, beep, beep ………the line is dead.
His brain told “This is the most foolishly laid trap ever, and you would be the biggest idiot if you fall for it”
His heart spoke for the first time after 27 years “Hear your heart for once and get to know your parent”
“Aaaahhhhhhhh”
he shouted out falling on his knees not able to bear the two organs of his body which were waging a war against each other. MIND AND HEART

James was sitting idle on the park bench watching little kids playing as the sun was setting across the horizon. He never liked kids and never showed mercy towards them. Twice he had killed infants along with their parents who were the actual target. Even as he sat there looking harmless waiting to become the bait and thinking about that call – so absurdly straight forward as if his “so called father” knew every thing about him. This surprised him and left him totally clueless for the first time in his life.

The sun was setting and darkening the now almost emptied park, it was half past seven. A shadow moved across his bench, he turned but before the shadow had left but not without a clue a small piece of folded paper lie on his bench,
“Come to the 152-A, 7th Cross Harrington street”

He caught a cab and pronounced the address, the cab moved to the destination. He started wondering about his father to be a more brilliant criminal than him. Before his already confused thoughts could convert him from a psycho to a confused psycho the cab stopped. He paid the cab driver and got down, He was surprised by the villa standing in the middle of a street full of flats. He walked into the villa and knocked the door. His intention was to place a gun at head of the first person he sees there and get some reason out of this whole situation.

And before the door opened a gun was stuck at his back and by instinct he tried to use his twist and snatch technique one more hand caught his arms and cuffed his wrists. “Too fast”, He was searched, his Biretta taken and then his cuffs were removed and he was pushed into the door which opened with alarming sync to the finish of his search. He was just too surprised to see the disrespect shown by these people towards one of the most wanted criminals of the world. Angry, frustrated and cursing his heart which had spoken to him for the first time in his life and screwed him too, he walked across the large hall which lay before him, at the end of which was a stair case going to the other floors of the villa. As he neared the stairs a man in his early 60’s in a dark suit with a diamond pin walked down it.

“My son”, the old man gasped and reached for his sons arm, which his son just whisked off and moved farther.
“You Bastard”, James shouted “Who are you, what do you want?”
“I am your father, I have been tracking you for past 17 years, I can prove it”,
the old man begged.
“Then why did I open my eyes in an orphanage”, James cried, surprised by his own reaction he covered his face with his hands.
As these two twisted characters spent a couple of hours with each other James found out the old man who called himself Dan Peterson had not married his wife until after 2 years of her giving birth of James and she had to put him away in an orphanage and she hadn’t informed him about that son until 10 years after their marriage. James after long time was feeling something other than criminality in his mind. After the stories were told by the father and son to each other and after their reunion which took some time, Dan called for dinner.

On the dinner table Dan sipping his soup pleaded
“Son, I know I am responsible for you being into the criminal world now and I am powerful enough to bring you out of it. Please join me and leave your business”.
“It is too early to think about it and it is too complicated to get out of that world, I am already aaagghhhh……” James fell on the floor and was rubbing his throat as if it had caught fire.
Dan got up from his seat on the table came near James walking as if this was what he was expecting to happen and as though he was satisfied with the timing.
“My son, sorry I had to do this, I am very sorry, god bless your soul”, James stared at Dan as if to ask him something.
“I know what you are thinking, Yes you are poisoned you are going to die within 3 minutes. Won’t you like to know why you are meeting this fate? Pity you are my son and I am not mourning for you, instead I am happy now. Do you remember Cathie?”, Dan smiled.

James’ mind flashed his remembrance of Cathie, Catherine the senator who had been his first victim, whom he had stabbed 13 times just for sake of making the count of 13 though she dint survive even the fifth cut on her body, those 500US$ flashed across his memory and again he stared at Dan as if totally puzzled.

Dan whispered “I tracked you down for so long and I came to know that you were my son two years back.” And then he shouted “You bloody bastard, Cathie was my wife, your damned mother” and kicked James in his stomach. “Remember the name you moron? Catherine Peterson” he shouted again and walked out of the dining hall and the lights faded off as James lie their withering in pain and unable to scream, with tears on his eyes pain his body and no hope of reaching heaven.

The next day’s newspaper read “Body of unknown person found in abandoned villa at 152-A, 7th Cross Harrington street”

He thought he was the best and presumed everyone knows him. But he died as an anonymous person. He paid the price, the price for all his crimes!

***THE END***

Everlasting Love

DISCLAIMER : The characters and the plot used here are completely fictional. Any resemblance of characters to actual persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental. The Author holds exclusive rights to this work. Unauthorized duplication is prohibited

I was initiated by the 'Lost Love Specialist' Benny, to give a break for my 55 Fictions and write a long Fiction. So I attempted writing this story.

********************

I was sitting on the sand and watching the waves hitting the shore. "It has been 4 long years now", I thought "A lot of things have happened in my life ". The waves were bringing back my old memories. I still remember how I met a guy with the name Rohit in this place. I usually hit the beach on weekends to forget loneliness after my friends got scattered all over India after school. Since then I could not find a circle of friends as I had in School. I usually see him sitting alone on the sands and viewing the waves. There is a saying, "Birds of same feather flock together ". I had never accepted this saying until I saw him.

Days went on.. Soon my eyes started to search for him every time I came to the beach. Slowly I felt some peculiar chemical reactions within me. The following weekend I didn't to go to the beach as all my friends had planned for a reunion. Even though I was with my friends I could sense something was not at its place. Does it have to do anything with him? I questioned myself but my heart failed to answer my questions. Next weekend when I went to the beach my eyes didn't search for him instead I was just admiring the beautiful waves. Waving its hands for me and wishing a great weekend, Until I heard a voice, "Seems you didn't turn up last weekend?", I just turned and noticed that, it was Rohit saying that. Those were the first words he spoke to me. I never knew I was noticed by him all these days. Words failed to come out of my mouth. "By The Way I am Rohit ", were the next few words which brought me back to my senses. "Hi I am Shwetha. Glad to meet you!". I greeted him with a smile. "Mind If I sit here ", he asked me tentatively, action spoke before words did and even before I could say no my head nodded in opposite way and gave permission for him. He sat there beside me and we spoke. I experienced Einstein's theory of relativity on that day. Hours flew just like seconds. He said that his native is Bengaluru and came to Chennai on a transfer. He told that he was staying with his parents in a house near to the beach.

Time went on and the more we spent time together, friendship grew more between us. We exchanged numbers. Weekend meetings start to become weekdays night phone chatting. Slowly my feeling towards him started to change, I never felt so attracted to a guy before. He was changing my life which was full of loneliness to a more enjoyable and fun filled one. He was working in a MNC, so he was free in the evenings most of the time. He started calling me after his office hours and we spoke for hours and hours. It was only in the weekends that we met each other and spoke in person; otherwise it was only over the phone.

After some days I couldn't speak with Rohit because of my semester exams. During my exam times, I never used my mobile and after my exams got over I checked my mobile it had some 50 odd messages from Rohit. The moment I saw it, I knew he would be very angry on me for not turning up this weekend. I called him a few times and there was no answer from him. I just messaged him about my inability to contact him because of my semesters and was waiting for his reply. That day my eyes failed to see dreams and my heart sensed fear of losing a friend, my bed which was of roses since the day I started to speak to Rohit, became thorns to me.

The next weekend, fate had different plans for me. I made it to the beach and was sitting there for about an hour, thinking about whether he would turn up or not. After waiting for another 30 odd minutes, I decided to leave and started walking towards my scooter. I saw him in front of me, I went to him and said "Hi am Sorry Rohit, I could not turn up last weekend. Had my exams, I guess you can understand", his silence gave me a signal that he was still angry with me! He just went past me and sat on the sand. I had no other option, so I followed his foot steps and sat next to him.

"Okay Rohit, I know ...you are angry on me. I am sorry for not informing you, I guess you can understand in what situation I was in."

His answer was silence. " If he doesn't like to speak to you, then don't disturb him", my mind gave me orders.

"Ok, Rohit I think your silence mean to me that I have to leave now! I don't want to disturb you, am leaving Ro"

I got up with a heavy heart. I took my first step and he broke his silence and said, "Please don't go"

He was depressed. I understood that from his voice. I went near him and sat . I saw the waves, I saw his face and saw those cold eyes and felt he is low-spirited. I went near him and asked, "Rohit, What happened? you seem dull! Did I say something wrong?". He relaxed himself by stretching his arms, and started speaking, "No you didn't tell anything wrong, I couldn't be there without talking to you, Shwetha. You have become so close to me, that I feel you are a part of me."

The moment he finished, a question arose in my mind "Rohit loving me? Isn't it?". I saw those piercing eyes of him and couldn't arrive at a conclusion. "Are you in love with me Rohit?", I asked him directly by looking into those eyes. He looked away from me and told "I don't know Shwe, but I have never missed anyone like I have missed you in this time". Words failed to come out from both of us. We returned home questioning ourselves , "Are we in love?"

The night was long and my eyes failed to draw curtains. Suddenly I saw my mobile blaring . It was him. I controlled all my emotions and picked up the call with my trembling hands.

"Hey Hi, Tell me Rohit"

There was silence, I could hear his hard breaths.

"Hello, anyone there?"

"Sorry to disturb you Shwetha. Thought you would be sleeping!"

"That's fine, Had some work. Going to hit my sack! Any problem Rohit!?"

"No, not at all.. just thought of speaking to you!"

"Oh ok, tell me.."

"Shwetha, Can I ask you a question? "

"Go on Ro"

"What would be your decision if I say 'I am in love with you'?"

I was caught on the thoughts. "Does he really meant what he said? I know I am not that attractive but he has those killer looks"

"Shwe, You there?"

"Yeah, Yeah.. I am very well here"

"Did I ask anything wrong?"

"Nope"

I came to my senses and told him my decision. "I too love you Ro!". The next moment, I only heard sounds of joy and cry; I felt his happiness in that cry, I felt his love for me that day. The days that followed were pleasant and the most unforgettable days in my life. Everything around me looked beautiful. I was experiencing the phrase "When love is in your heart, everything around you will appear beautiful than ever". We shared happiness, sorrows, and had little fights which made the bonding between us stronger.

Suddenly one day Rohit approached me in my college and asked me to accompany him. I told my friends to give proxy for me and went out of the college. He parked his bike outside a magnificent house. I asked, "Hey Ro, what you are upto?". He placed his finger in my mouth and asked me to keep mum till entering the house. On entering the house, the biggest shock of my life was waiting for me. Rohit's mom was standing in the porch and smiling at me. I saw Rohit smiling at me and he introduced me to his mom. Both our parents accepted our love and we planned our marriage after Rohit's Onsite project. We were the happiest couple living on this planet.

The life clock's pendulum doesn't wish me to be in the happier side always. The day came when Rohit has to leave the country to go to France on a 45 day trip. We reached the airport and sensing the need of privacy our parents left us alone. He looked deeply into my eyes and said, "I Love you" and kissed me. When the announcement came he waved goodbye to all of us, but his eyes were trailing me. 45 days went just like that and he called me from France and asked me to come to airport to receive him. We were waiting in the airport, when the announcement came, "We are deeply regretting to say that, the Flight which is due to arrive from France, crashed Mid-air and all the passengers are reported dead. A navy squad is employed there for searching the dead bodies. Our deepest condolences to the kith and kin". I felt the world around me shatter, my heart became heavy. At that moment I wished the ground beneath me to devour me. There was nothing I could do, all things were over. Tears ran down my cheeks and I was shaking uncontrollably.

'Rohit left me and reached God's abode. How he left me alone?'. I walked in the sands with the memories of Rohit; I sat and started to view the waves... for the first time in my life after meeting Rohit everything around me looked gloomier. I felt the waves were calling me towards them. My legs started walking towards the waves without my intention. I heard someone calling "Shwetha, Come here!!". My eyes started to search who was the person?

"Come here, Don't play with the sand". It was some kid's (whose name is same as mine) Mom. But my mom's face flashed before me the instant I saw the kid's mother. I took a decision. I prepared myself to face the facts of my life. I called my Mom and cried for all that had happened. She consoled me. I told her about my decision. At first she never accepted to my decision. I switched off the phone and walked towards my scooter with new thoughts in my mind.

"Mom, See what I have made for you." were the words which brought me back to the present .....

"Yeah, Dear!" ..

"A sand castle for you ma!!"

"Oh that's lovely dear" I said with a smile, looking at my child.

"Come here, Rohit, Let us stand here..."

He came running towards me. I lifted him and kissed him on the forehead.

Rohit, my adopted child. I have started to live my life for him in these 3 years. I took his hand, walked with him and made the waves touch his feet. He was smiling at me.

"Come on Dear, Let's go home!! Grandma will be waiting for us".

I held his hand and we started to walk over the sands. I turned back to watch my footsteps and felt, 'My first love was Rohit, My last love will be Rohit too'. I walked towards my car holding my last love's hand.

Love may not always exist in people who get a chance to live together…
But… it always exists in people who are no longer together…
