Life..

It has been a long time since I wrote something about life. Recently I read a story which provoked me to write this article. The story goes like this.

Once a very rich man from America visited a Saint in India, He entered the small abode of this famous saint and saw that there was no furniture in his house. The saint invited him and gave him water to drink.
A bit uncomfortable as he was trying not to offend this great saint he asked,
“You are a great man but where is your furniture?”
The saint replied
“Where is yours?”
The Rich man said “Well I am just a visitor to this place”
The saint replied “Aren’t we all.”

If we look and think deeper about this story, we may understand a beautiful concept about life. After our birth, we live in this world amidst various people showing love, care, affection, hatred to us. We fight so much with fellow human beings for justifying our rights. Everywhere we see feuds for money, power and many more. Terrorism is on the heights and these people (Terrorists) needs to see blood everywhere. Why don't we understand the true concept of life. Mostly clashes and problems arise in a family (mostly joint families) because of the money. Money may/can change the mentality of the spectator and has the power to change his perspective on life. After our death, are we going to take this money for which we fight so much? The answer is a big NO. The only thing which is going to accompany us, after our death is our Karma. Earn good relationships with every fellow human being, that's a great asset, because you can't satisfy many. Once my mom told me, "In life, Its not the number of persons who is with you when you live in this world. Its only the number of people who misses you even after you die and silently shreds a tear in your memory". I never understood the real meaning until I faced a big loss in my life. It changed my perspective. Live your life happily. Achieve something when you live. Always remember, two things in life:

  • We have only one life
  • We don't bring anything to this world and we don't take anything with us after death

Take a deep breath, relax yourself. Ease all the pressures off your shoulders and approach the life with a big smile on your face and life will treat you in a best way. Life is full of beauty. Notice it. Notice the bumble bee, the small child, and the smiling faces. Smell the rain, and feel the wind. Live your life to the fullest potential, and fight for your dreams.

Let your dreams come true.

With Love,

  4. Hi shruti,

"Notice it. Notice the bumble bee, the small child, and the smiling faces. Smell the rain, and feel the wind. Live your life to the fullest potential, and fight for your dreams.".
...Well said and i do it with conscience and conviction.

Whatever you said about money is absolutely true.

Though this topic have many debatable elements(spiritual and philosophical), I would like pose one query to have some rational discussion.

    I find a contradiction here.
    You said,
1.The only thing which is going to accompany us, after our death is our Karma.
    2.We have only one life

--> If we have one life then what's the purpose of carrying Karma. Doesnt the death of so called one life end everything ??
--> Is your Karma has something to do about the concept of life after death(soul and all)??

I am not disagreeing with u, rather, i want more clarity in those two points.

  5. Good post girlie.. Agree with you completely.. I had a friend who would say "I wont spend on this. I want to save money".. I always told him this "you are saving it for future, but do you know what will happen in future? Earth can get hit by a meteor or humanity may disappear or anything can happen".. I always believe in living life to the fullest extent because who knows kal ho na ho!

    Hi buddy :)
you said you have some doubts here. Let me try my level best to clarify it!
    "I find a contradiction here.

--> If we have one life then what's the purpose of carrying Karma. Doesnt the death of so called one life end everything ??
--> Is your Karma has something to do about the concept of life after death(soul and all)??"

    My reply
One life - I said, we don't know neither about our past nor about future. That zeroes in what? A single life which you are living! So enjoy this life. Clarified?

Karma is going to accompany us. Have you heard the proverb 'As you sow, so shall you reap'. That's the concept of karma.

According to what i have heard, in our hindu philosophy, karma-sin and punya, our re-births are decided

Karma is something which comes along with you and save ur soul in all 7 re-births(Hindu philosophy)

Hope I have clarified you with something which i know!

Those who become saints for earning money sits on these cushion chairs. But still there are saints who sacrifice everthing in life. I have seen such people in Amarnath. They are there without doing any public stunts.

We indeed are so immersed in trying to survive from one day to next, that we forget to Live.

Shruti, you are not only an awesome writer, you are a deep, heartfelt thinker too.

    Wonderful post! :)

  19. amazing post shruti...I had a post with a similar message about life

"Accept your life unconditionally. Be happy with what you have got and make most of it. Running away from the situation will not help you in any of the ways. Face it and fight it to make your own space in the world"

  21. Hi Shruti,

Yeah, you have clarified your intention and thought. :)
And also as the post here is not about 'Karma', i dont want dig it with my agnostic and anthropological magnifier :)

Whatever you said about Karma and one life, yes, it did give impact to the whole topic. :)

Good attempt. I would like to suggest you to rationally analyse your topic (also karma, if possible ) with objective mindset so that you will come with more refined topic regarding life in future. You know very well that it is not that easy to write about life in few paras , but you did manage very well to fabricate the crux of the topic in a positive approach.
Keep writing. Keep exploring the life.
    :) :) :)

  28. I am not sure .. what to take from here .. since there is no after life .. why worry .. I mean live while u can why live in penance(like the ascetic you talked about) eat drink and make merry .. as u said "We have only one life..". Off course hatred jealousy and such tamsic bhawnaein only make a oneself unhappy .. so it makes sense to .. After the loss of a dear one I have lost all faith in karma and am at best agnostic if not an atheist..

    Hi :)
When life don't treat you in a proper way, you will be disturbed and u cant live life. Correct!! Very true! But its our mindset! Stay happy even if u r dull. That will make u approach all ur problems in a different way

  52. Excellent post shruti... also a thought provoking one too....

Just for the sake of money & power, the two things which are not sure of being with us till our death and very sure of not being with us after death, we ppl are exchaging the feelings of hatred, jealosy, dislike, violonce and so on against fellow human beings....

Doing so, we prove the world that we are no more different than a sive sensed animal... Lets try to make our life meaningful by just living the life like a human...

    Gud work Shruti!!!
